Christmas 2014

Well another Christmas has just passed and the Year is almost over. I have become a year older only a few short weeks ago, and the warmer weather has arrived and we have had lttle rain again for this time of year.

I got a text on my mobile from a friend asking us if we would like to head into town, it had been so hot that day and as the evening approached it didn't seem to hold the heat that it held earlier that day. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to grab my camera and take a few shots.

My beloved and I headed off into town we were supposed to meet our friend and kids at 7.30pm in Bourke Street out the front of the department store Myers. It got to 8.00pm and she still hadn't arrived so I took the opportunity to get my camera out of my backpack and  take a few photos, whilst we waited.

Our friend and her kids finally arrived a little after 8.00pm, we got into the line to have a look at the Myer Christmas windows. I was very thankful that the que wasn't like it was before Christmas because we wold have had to wait for hours then. I did take a few shots but it was so hard with the glare from the glass, it was themed the Three Bears and Father Christmas. It was very good, although it didn't have the same feel or effect as when I was a child. I loved the windows when I was little, mum and I would get all dressed up and head of on the tram to the city for the day, look at the windows then head up the top end of  Bourke Street for lunch at the Coles cafeteria. Mum would have raisin toast and coffee and I a bowl of hot chips, usually with a glass of milk. I loved our days in town. After lunch we would head down stairs and mum would look for all the sales she could before we headed back to Myers. to the Myer Bargain Basement and to the roof top to see Father Christmas.
Mum loved the Myer basement, well what woman didn't, the red light would go off and the women would run as fast as they could to grab a bargain until the light wet off. Those where the days the good ole days.
Who remembers this?

I could go on with this for ever but I wont.

The windows were great for the kids, you could hear the squeals of happiness as they ran towards them, you could see the excitement in their faces. Sadly my kids have grown up and this now is a thing of the past for us.

We walked with our friend around the city, as the sun started to fade and the breeze which had cooled was lovely after such a hot day.
We stopped of too look at a few thing on our walk, to take in the atmosphere around us, to watch the people around us of  all nationalities, all shapes and sizes, off to who knows where.

 Melbourne Arts Centre Spire
 Allens Music Store
Laneways all lit up for those who wanted to enter some doorway at the side of some old building. Maybe it was a restaurant or a night club, or some secret enterance to something unknown! Who knows...
Windsor Hotel with it's lush red carpet and beautiful gold doors, stood open waiting for that rich guest.
Not a hotel which we could ever afford to stay at,  it sure does look very swish.

I must admit I enjoy walking around the city at night, the atmosphere seems so  different to the day. The lights the smells of all the restaurants and the coffee brewing somewhere not too far away.
