New Years 2014

Well another year is over and I'm wondering how long I will be typing 2014 rather than 2015.

I cannot complain about 2014,, it wasn't a bad year celebrating beloveds 50th Birthday, Daughter finishing her 2nd last year of high school, catching up with friends and my photography

My photography last year took me to some awesome places, and my love affair with my camera hasn't diminished yet. I'm hoping 2015 will bring me bigger and better things with my photography.

Hubby had my first photo printed for me on metal and gave it to me for Christmas that was amazing and the image looks so good.

New years was great we had an awesome time watching the fireworks from Point Gellibrand Coastal Park. We had planned to sit in the main part of Williamstown but at 6.30pm we could not get a parking spot. Everywhere you looked there were cars, so I suggested to beloved to follow the road down past the shops to the park, he grumbled a bit and said not a good spot. I think I had suggested a good spot, there were only us and 3 other cars until much later and we had the pick of the spots.

As we sat in the car and waited, eating chocolate and chips and drinking coffee it started out to be a good night for both of us. We watched several ships pass by one of to Tasmania with a boat load of travelers. The other a cargo ship of to who knows where.

It was a lovely cool evening after such a hot day, we watched children fishing with their family and getting excited as they felt their rod pull and hoping to be able to lure in that fish. Families sat and waited for the first fire works to appear at 12:00pm.

We had a perfect spot, yes beloved even had to eat his words and agreed with me that it was a good spot to sit and wait and watch the world go by. From where we sat we could see St Kilda and all it's high rise buildings as the sun began to set.

The park began to fill as it got closer  to midnight  cars tried to get the good spots but sadly they disappeared quite quickly, I  was thankful that we got their so much earlier and managed to get the best spot. 

People started to emerge from their cars trying to get a good standing position. I set up my tri-pod at 11.50pm and waited patiently for midnight to approach. 10, 9, 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Midnight hooray were the cheers of people and children squealed as they watched the fireworks over the city buildings. Fathers placed small children on their shoulders so they didn't miss anything and I  snapped away with my camera trying and hoping to get some really good photos. I had my 55 -250mm lens on my camera, but wished I had a 70-200mm  lens, oh well I suppose you make do with what you have at the time. The fireworks lasted about 20 minutes and another new years celebrations were over for another year. Happy New Year to Everyone.

Christmas 2014

Well another Christmas has just passed and the Year is almost over. I have become a year older only a few short weeks ago, and the warmer weather has arrived and we have had lttle rain again for this time of year.

I got a text on my mobile from a friend asking us if we would like to head into town, it had been so hot that day and as the evening approached it didn't seem to hold the heat that it held earlier that day. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to grab my camera and take a few shots.

My beloved and I headed off into town we were supposed to meet our friend and kids at 7.30pm in Bourke Street out the front of the department store Myers. It got to 8.00pm and she still hadn't arrived so I took the opportunity to get my camera out of my backpack and  take a few photos, whilst we waited.

Our friend and her kids finally arrived a little after 8.00pm, we got into the line to have a look at the Myer Christmas windows. I was very thankful that the que wasn't like it was before Christmas because we wold have had to wait for hours then. I did take a few shots but it was so hard with the glare from the glass, it was themed the Three Bears and Father Christmas. It was very good, although it didn't have the same feel or effect as when I was a child. I loved the windows when I was little, mum and I would get all dressed up and head of on the tram to the city for the day, look at the windows then head up the top end of  Bourke Street for lunch at the Coles cafeteria. Mum would have raisin toast and coffee and I a bowl of hot chips, usually with a glass of milk. I loved our days in town. After lunch we would head down stairs and mum would look for all the sales she could before we headed back to Myers. to the Myer Bargain Basement and to the roof top to see Father Christmas. 
Mum loved the Myer basement, well what woman didn't, the red light would go off and the women would run as fast as they could to grab a bargain until the light wet off. Those where the days the good ole days.

I could go on with this for ever but I wont.



The windows were great for the kids, you could hear the squeals of happiness as they ran towards them, you could see the excitement in their faces. Sadly my kids have grown up and this now is a thing of the past for us.

We walked with our friend around the city, as the sun started to fade and the breeze which had cooled was lovely after such a hot day.
We stopped of too look at a few thing on our walk, to take in the atmosphere around us, to watch the people around us of  all nationalities, all shapes and sizes, off to who knows where.

 Laneways all lit up for those who wanted to enter some doorway at the side of some old building. Maybe it was a restaurant or a night club, or some secret enterance to something unknown! Who knows...
 Windsor Hotel with it's lush red carpet and beautiful gold doors, stood open waiting for that rich guest.
Not a hotel which we could ever afford to stay at,  it sure does look very swish.

I must admit I enjoy walking around the city at night, the atmosphere seems so  different to the day. The lights the smells of all the restaurants and the coffee brewing somewhere not too far away.
